Lord Selkirk School Division Goals for 2009-2010
1. Enhance and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff
  • Enhance safety and health in divisional workplaces through the hiring of a Workplace Safety and Health Officer to coordinate activities such as work practices, safety procedures, WHIMS training, job hazard analyses, and policy development. (New)
  • Implement and monitor the LSSD Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan. (New)
  • Implement and enhance the Wellness Plan for students and staff.
  • Continue to offer CPR/First Aid and Defibrillator training for all staff.
  • Collaborate with RCMP to complete S.A.F.E requirements.
  • Approve and implement the revised LSSD Threat Assessment Risk Protocol.
  • Continue to offer workshops/presentations for students, staff, parents and the community on the dangers of drug/alcohol/gambling addictions and Internet safety.

2. Improve student academic achievement
  • Enhance student achievement on divisional assessments and provincial tests of grade 7 Mathematics and grade 8 English Language Arts, and grade 12 English Language Arts and Mathematics.
  • Plan the final year and the follow-up strategies for the “Understanding Early Years (UEY)” Project.
  • Focus on positive school culture to increase student engagement and learning.
  • Develop a 5-year strategic plan for the integration and expansion of technology in the educational and operational functions of the school division.
  • Explore the feasibility of full-time Kindergarten in the Division. (New)
  • Increase communication with parents regarding student progress and divisional events/resources.
  • Focus professional development and grade level sharing on the assessment, evaluation and reporting of student achievement.
  • Implement changes to report cards K-12. (New), Expand the T.A.L.L. (Technology Assisted Literacy and Learning) project to grade 8 and 9 classrooms in the Division.
  • Increase the retention and graduation rates of aboriginal students.

3. Enhance school facilities
  • Renovate/redevelop Happy Thought School as the Divisional Early Years Centre for Educational Excellence through the addition of a Daycare and Before-and-After School Facility. (New)
  • Develop more attractive environments through the renovation/restoration of school playgrounds and parking lots.
  • Review storage space and location for confidential documents and information in the Division.

4. Build leadership capacity
  • Offer the Administrative Internship Program for teachers interested in school administration. (New)
  • Maximize administrative leadership capacity through professional development opportunities.
  • Offer a professional development workshop for Acting Administrators. (New)
  • Implement the “Educational Assistant Skill Development for Working with ASD or At-Risk Behaviour Project” in September- December, 2009. (New)
  • Develop a divisional Mentor/Apprentice program for teacher candidates and their cooperating teachers. (New)
